Gesture Drawing and my Bicycle Art

with No Comments

In much of my latest work I’ve been rediscovering the joys of drawing bicycles and cycling events in a very casual, gestural manor. This fluid easy style of capturing a moment or feeling is very natural for me. It’s a style of drawing I’ve been doing for years and the work just falls out of me.

Veloist Group

Once I see in my minds eye the subject or idea the hand takes over and the ink flows. This approach to my drawing allows me to create many studies as I search for new ideas to create my larger digital drawings that may take several days to complete.

Riding High

Many of these studies are available as one-of-a-kind drawings on my website under the heading of Original Bicycle Artwork.

Racing in the Rain

To me there is a simple, honest emotional quality in these drawings. I look for elements or insights in a situation and try to capture it. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t. But with every new drawing I create, I find myself growing and learning as an artist and as a cyclist.
